Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant which is part of the mint family. Lemon balm is native to south-central Europe, the Mediterranean, Iran, and Central Asia, but can now be found in the Americas and elsewhere.
Lemon balm has been used as far back as the Middle Ages to help with health conditions like stress and anxiety, to help promote sleep, helps improve appetite and can ease pain and discomfort from indigestion.
Lemon balm also has anti inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties and is even a good topical treatment of herpetic infections (cold sores) and a potent remedy for the treatment of viral infections as influenza viruses have started to develop resistance to the current antivirals widely available.
Why Herbal Extracts?
Of the three main extraction methods used to produce herbal remedies, extracts are simply the best. Macerations use solvents which may leave harmful residues in the end product, most tinctures contain alcohol which is a systemic poison. Herbal extracts remove mineral salts and bitter principles through simmering herbs in water for a prolonged period. They contain far higher levels of active ingredients, no alcohol and can be made from hard plant parts unlike infusions. Our herbal extracts are made in small batches from organic ingredients by our fully qualified herbalist. They are also a superior form of supplementation than tablets or capsules, as many of those have artificially made ingredients and contain filers, flowing agents, excipients binding agents and preservatives. Also, they often contain only one active ingredient neglecting the fact that nutrients work synergistically in the body. Our qualified Herbalist uses only our own zero ppm quad filtered distilled water, all equipment used is stainless steel and our herbal extracts are bottled into steam sterilised UV resistant pharmaceutical grade glass bottles, which obviates the need to use preservatives of any kind. Take care not to touch the inside of the neck of bottle or lid against anything or return decanted herbal extracts.
